A series of paintings on the theme of air, water, soil, rock and vegetation. I worked for 50 years as a civil engineer and was always acutely aware of the implications of the soil and rock condition within or upon which my construction was based.
This group of paintings are representation of thought rather than observed objects. The application of paint is in relatively large colourfields which demands a large canvas over which to operate.
Sunrises, sunsets, seas and skies are ideal subjects for a painter who prefers the more abstract subjects. This gallery comprises predominantly small paintings created with small, broken taches of paint. Others are achieved with glazing - translucent layers over more opaque under-painting.
